Our Valentine's-The crafts, treats and yes...Food!

This may have been our most simple, low key Valentine's Day ever, but I feel it was the best so far. Hubby and I had a nice romantic evening last night. Today, besides our family going to breakfast, we spent the evening at home and I made us a nice dinner, with desert. I was feeling a little crafty and decided to make my girls some Valentine treats. Michael's was where I headed for my supplies (as always).I used Chinese food boxes, lollipops, cellophane, heart shape chocolates and Styrofoam blocks. And here is the finished product! Tada!!!Nate and I got treats too! (Hubby got treats too but he ate them before I could snap a picture! LOL)On our V-Day menu: Appetizers-Trader Joe's Fondue. It's a blend of Swiss Emmental & Gruyere Cheeses. And it's ready to use! It's definitely only for a true cheese lover. Best of all, I got to use my new fondue pot.
Dinner: Baked Salmon- I seasoned each piece with salt, pepper and McCormick's Grill Mate Salmon seasoning. I browned the salmon on a frying pan first, just for a couple minutes. Then placed them on a baking dish and put in the oven (pre-heat at 350 degrees), for about 8-10 minutes. I served it with a side salad and Mushroom Risotto. The risotto, I also found at Trader Joe's, in the freezer section. I followed the package instructions and just added a little salt.
Desert: Chocolate covered strawberries. I thought of doing something else but my kids, along with hubby, LOVE chocolate covered strawberries. Since I hardly ever make them, they really were looking forward to having them for Valentines.
I didn't want to spend hours in the kitchen, which is why I went the easy, instant route, in some areas. Spending time with my loves, was my goal this year, not slaving over a stove. I added a few small touches, like the plates that the girls used (I had them up in a cabinet forever). I bought heart shaped souffle cups and decided to use them to serve the strawberries. Everything was PERFECT. Just look at those faces! Life is good!
