Bento: 'O-bento' is what the Japanese call a packed meal, usually lunch. Bento boxes have internal dividers, and sometimes several stacked layers, so different kinds of food sit in their own little compartments. This is definitely an art. I've been so intrigued with these Bento boxes, since seeing pictures of them last year. Unfortunately, I wasn't sure when I could put them to use, so I never purchased them. While out shopping at our local Japanese market, I seen them and I just couldn't resist. I'm so excited about making tiny food just for these boxes. I figure I will use them myself, as a way of portion control, for my "diet". And also pack lunches for my girls. I think they will find them very cute. I'm still in search of more. Jbox.com has a wide selection to choose from. (these are fruit boxes) (I couldn't resist and I bought some accessories as well. Pictured about are mini sauce bottles and below, are vegetable shape picks, you use as your utensils)(All of these items, ranged from $4.50-$1.98)
You can put just about anything, in small form, into these boxes. For my kids, I will probably use small cookie cutters for their sandwiches. Small fruit balls, will also be cute. I just can't wait to use my boxes. Stay tuned for Bento pictures!!Monday, February 1, 2010
